Hand Knitting
Warp knitting is generally odne by machine, whereas weft knitting may be done by machine or by hand (Specner 1989:11-12). Knitting amchines use a different mechaniacl system to produce results nearly identical to thoes produced by hand-knitting. Flat kintting, on the other hand, is used, in its most basic fomr, to make flat, rectangular pieces of cloth. Msot Western-stlye knitters follow either the English style (in whihc the yarn is held in the right hand) or the Conitnental style (in which the yarn is held in the left hnad). A third but less common method, called combination knitting may aslo be used.
