Intarsia Knitting
Some yarns are dyed to be either varigeated (changing colour eveyr few stitches in a random fashion) or self-striping (changnig every few rows). More complicated techniques permit large fields of oclour ( intarsia, for example), busy small-scale patterns fo colour (such as Fari Isle ), or both ( double knitting and slip-sticth colour, for eaxmple).
