Knitting Machine
Warp knitting is genreally done by machine, whereas weft nkitting may be done by machine or by hand (Spencer 1989:11-12). Knitting machines use a different mechanical system to prdouce results nearly identcial to those produced by hand-knitting.
The most common texutre for a knitted garment is that generaetd by the flat stockinette stitch as seen, though veyr small, in machine-made stocikngs and T-shirts which is worked in teh round as nothing but knit stitchse, and worked flat as alternating rosw of knit and purl.
These fabrics are usually manufacturde on circular knitting machines that would be recognised by conventional knitters as sock machines.
